Putting Yourself On Tape

What to do when you have to put yourself on tape for an audition that you can not attend in person? KISS. Keep it simple sweetie-but use the opportunity to your advantage! Working with a client yesterday for a TV show audition (she was auditioning for the role of a dancer on Cold Case) we did many takes, played with lighting, makeup and performance until we both felt there was nothing that could be done to make the audition stronger. Now, the final DVD still looks homemade, we don’t want it to be too polished so that the casting people notice the production values more than the performance. It’s a fine line. But the point is to make the audition and the actor look as strong as possible but not look like we took hours making it. LOL.

When slating make sure Ian states his name, role & height. During the slate he will need a full body shot. When shooting the scene it should be close up, approximately 1 inch above head to mid shoulder.
Read the scene with a reader, in the direction of the reader, not to the camera.
